For the love of FABFs and Bloggers

I recently had a conversation with my mom about my blogging ‘friends’. I tried to explain to her that on some very real level I think people who read my blog will know me as well and in some cases better than those I know in real life. It may surprise you, but when I am hanging out with flesh and blood friends I rarely go on and on in paragraph form about my thoughts on surf camp. I might say-“oh yeah the boys did surf camp last week and they loved it.” But not much more. And I rarely show vintage ads to my flesh and blood friends (FABF’s) and make up funny scripts for them. So really, the people who read my blog get to know me in a totally different method. Of course my bloggy friends don’t get to have the joy of have me coming over to their house and have my kids litter it with Legos nor do they have to hear me complain about my daily mundane tasks as a mom. Nope I save all that stuff for my FABF’s….poor them come to think of it. And my FABF’s see me UNEDITED. And let’s say that I could use a little editing in real life. I have been know to say things I regret. Daily. I think what I am learning (as I type this) that while both the blogger friends and the FABFs get to know me- they are each getting to know me in different ways. Taking different paths to an eventual conclusion that I am positively insane perhaps. Either way my bloggy friends and FABF’s are equally important to me. And my heart sings when the two become one. Some of my FABF’s read my blog, although many don’t (I can tell because when I see them they have no idea about My kids writing on the doors, or Ed traveling or what embarasses me) and I attribute this to the fact that they get enough of me in real life- and well I might be best taken in smaller doses. So when I get to meet a blogger friend in real life- who BECOMES a FABF…well that is heaven to me. I like my friends- all of you. I hope I can keep you around for a long, long time. And I will do my best and promise to make my kids pick up the Legos next time we are over.

Hi Marcy! I am glad the place looks nice today because I am sending my Field Trippers over here! I've been a lurker and it is time for me to be outed and let the Candid Carrie Campers see why I enjoy coming back over here!

I want to be considered one of your FABFs, because In My World I really do have Flesh and Blood, oodles of it!

I came over from Candid Carrie's field trip. I promise I won't take anything and I won't leave behind any surprises either!

I love all the vintage pics on your blog. I'm gonna have to check you out in more detail.

I came from the Field Trip but I hang around these parts all the time.

I feel very similiar about my blogging friends. In general, no one wants to hear about the minutea of your inner thinking. But, on a blog about you where people come because they want to and they read all that minutea...suddenly they know you very well and as far as I'm concerned they become your frieds.

Keep on blogging you are one of my favorites :)

Hi Marcy, I am with the field trippers too. My FABF and my blog buddies are starting to mesh together. I find I have to really think about what I said and when I said?? It gets comical when you are going into early senility.

Love your blog and all of it's oldy but goody look.

Marcy- This is your mom.
Believe me, your boys do more damage than just a few legos laying around! I'm still recouping from their visit yesterday! Still, I wouldn't miss it!

Send them over Sat. I can't wait!!

Yup I'm the same, I think we tend to reveal more about ourselves online than we do in real life. Does that make sense?
*helping my kids pick up the lego now*

I came on the field trip also and I have ventured down and read other posts...but I am hyper ventilating because did they REALLY get rid of the Carl's Jr. fries? Seriously...we need to start a petition! I won't stand for it.. :)

I find that sometimes I even get frustrated with my FABFs because I just wrote 6 paragraphs on that - how could you not know that was going on? And then I remember that most of my FABFs dont read my blog because - for whatever reason - they don't "believe" in blogs. One said something about how they're all self-centered and narcissistic.

So?

Isn't that cool when that happens? I came her by way of your comment on Always Home and Uncool, we met through blogging. He left a comment on a post I wrote, and we gradually figured out that he lives TWO BLOCKS from my family, his kids are the same age as mine, his wife works for the same place. And now we're buds in real life.

the world is a strangely small place.

Marcy,
I live about 15 minutes from your city and grew up reading the Orange County Register. I was even in it once or twice a few eons ago and might just show up in one of your vintage photos:-)

Of course I'll be back for more.
Came here by way of Candid Carrie.

Being bloggy BFFs is just so time efficient. I can read faster than you can talk.

So, I get your whole heart in under a minute.

Believe me, if someone called me every day and tried to READ their post to me - I would probably end up screening calls.

PLUS - we don't have the interpersonal stuff - so no one has to mess with the "you hurt my feelings" stuff.

Your blog is the place that gets to be about YOU.

And look how many of us love it so much we keep coming back.

I just hope you like me as well UNEDITED.

I guess I'll just stick with this for now.
